OUR FRATERNITY

Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. is the first international fraternal organization founded on the campus of a historically black college.
On the evening of November 17, 1911, Omega Psi Phi was founded inside the Science Building (later renamed Thirkield Hall) at Howard University located in Washington, D.C. The founders were three undergraduates — Edgar Amos Love, Oscar James Cooper and Frank Coleman. Joining them was their faculty adviser, Ernest Everett Just.
From the initials of the Greek phrase meaning, “friendship is essential to the soul“, the name Omega Psi Phi was derived. That phrase was selected as the motto.
Manhood, Scholarship, Perseverance and Uplift were adopted as Cardinal Principles.
OUR CHAPTER

Chapter Basileus ---August 2023-2025,
Greetings Residents of Horry County and Beyond,
I am honored to serve as the Basileus of Omega Psi Phi, Inc.--Upsilon Beta Beta Chapter. There is a lot of work to be done in the Horry County community and we are committed to doing our part to enhance the life of all who live here. We will continue to be viable in this community because our Chapter will continue to develop partnerships with community stakeholders to implement and carry out our mandated programs. Our program emphasis is to implement both a STEM Camp and Fatherhood Mentoring Program. Some of our other programs include Achievement Week, Social Action and Voter Registration, Talent Hunt, Assault on Literacy, and Health Initiatives.
We have been working in this community since 1983. For forty years, even during the pandemic, we focused our efforts on serving the Horry County Community through meaningful programs and connections. Now, as Omega Men we are continuing our focus on the youth and adults in our community. We are uplifting our chapter to a higher level through dedicated service to you. As Basileus, I am proud to lead this dynamic group of men who are committed to the ideals of Omega Psi Phi, Inc. and dedicated to the citizens of Horry County.
In Friendship and Service,
William Stephens, III
Basileus
